One of the great mysteries will be solved on Friday when McPherson High competes in the Class 4A Regional Tennis Tournament at Lindsborg.
The meet begins at 10 a.m. at the Ron Dahlsten Tennis Complex and then resumes on 9 a.m. Saturday.
Bullpup coach Tyler Brown has been mulling over all week just how he wants to set his lineup. In recent meets, he has used a number of different combinations, but after Monday’s meet here, he was not tipping his hand as to which way he is leaning.
He does know he’ll choose among Ellea Ediger, Rachel Ivers, Cassidy Corrigan, Maisie Edmonson, Shelby Gudenkauf and Heidi Myers.
Ediger has been second and fifth, respectively, in the state the last two years in singles. However, she joined up with Ivers during an earlier meet and all they did was knock off the defending 4A champions Jessica Steffen and Kendra Nachtigal of Buhler, who are in the field Friday.
Ediger and Edmonson won No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, at the AVCTL Division III--IV Championships earlier this week, while Ivers and Corrigan were third at No. 1 doubles, and Gudenkauf and Myers were second at No. 2.
The goal, of course, is to qualify as many performers as you can, but Brown also wants to set it up for his most legitimate chance at state gold.
Other teams on hand will be Abilene, Chapman, Clay Center, Colby, Concordia, Hays, Nickerson and Smoky Valley.
MHS and Buhler are the expected favorites, with Smoky Valley right there in the hunt.
