McPherson County State Fishing Lake remains one of eight lakes under a public health warning for blue-green algae.

Additionally, zone c of Milford Reservoir has been partially closed due to high levels of the toxic algae. That means beaches in that area of Milford are completely closed and fishing and boating are strongly discouraged by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Zones A and B of Milford do remain open.

Along with the McPherson County lake, warning are in effect for Brown County State Fishing Lake, Chisholm Creek Park Lake, Harvey County East Park Lake, Hiawatha City Lake, Melvern River Pond, Nemaha State Fishing Lake and Plainville Township Lake.
