One step to solving potential accidents for vehicles exiting the People's Bank and Trust drive-thru cleared one hurdle Tuesday, as the McPherson City Planning Commission approved the vacation of an east-west alley in the 100 block of South Main Street.

People's officials had originally requested the vacation of both that alley and the north-south alley, with the intention of closing off the north end to prevent vehicles from exiting out onto Kansas Avenue from what they called a nearly blind sidewalk during their presentation Tuesday.

A discussion with city staff, city commissioners, public safety personnel and utility representatives, however, showed the necessity of keeping the north-south alley open. People's, instead, plans to create an exit driveway using the vacated east-west alleyway that will direct customers to Ash Street instead of Kansas.

The planning board gave their recommendation to the city commission to approve the east-west vacation unanimously.
