GARDEN PLAIN — Hesston High’s volleyball team came away from the Garden Plain Invitational with a 1-4 record on Saturday, which was more losses than it had incurred the entire season.

The win came over 6A school Wichita North (25-16, 25-18), while the losses were to Andale (25-22, 25-23), Garden Plain (25-15, 25-18), Lakin (25-23, 23-25, 25-22) and Garden Plain again (25-17, 25-13).

While the tournament didn’t do much to help the Swathers’ record, the competition certainly will help the team improve.

“This is a good tournament for us, to play some strong teams that we do not get to see at any other time in the regular season,” Hesston coach Jason Peters said. “We have had a long, tough week, playing a total of nine matches and homecoming in between, and four out of our five losses this week coming to ranked teams. We have another tough week coming up, but the good competition continues to push us to improve as we approach the end of the regular season.”

Hesston is now 20-7 on the year and hosts Smoky Valley and Lyons on Tuesday.
