EL DORADO — McPherson High’s cross country team continues to make progress as it hopes to peak come league and regional time.

The Bullpups competed Saturday in the El Dorado Invitational and had several quality performances, led by a 13th-place finish in the girls’ race by Katie Bahr.

“With PRs (personal records) continually our focus, I was really happy when 22 out of the 31 runners turned in a PR or SB (season best),” MHS coach Gentry Nixon said. “We had set some aggressive time goals for this meet, and many of them stepped up and met those goals. A few decided to completely destroy their goals. They were fun to watch. I can feel so many of them getting more and more confident as we progress through the season, and it is making me more and more confident in their ability to compete during postseason.”

There were several individuals who caught Nixon’s eye.

“Katie Bahr was looking to run in the low 21s, but decided to break into the mid 20s instead,” Nixon said. “Tyler Timson and Isaiah Moyer both turned in impressive PRs, and Chris Kirchner showed his ability to mentally push past a rough mile No. 2 and still turn in a season-best time. They are all demonstrating their mental toughness as well as how coachable they are.”

The Bullpups return to El Dorado on Thursday for the league meet.
