Huge night for Viking spikers

HESSTON — It was a landmark night for Smoky Valley’s volleyball team on Tuesday.

The Vikings knocked off Lyons (25-18, 25-17) and then scored what had to be considered somewhat of an upset of Hesston (25-16, 18-25, 27-25).

The Vikings finished 9-2 in the Central Kansas League and are 21-8 overall as they have broken into the Class 4A Division II rankings.

Big nights for the Vikings:

• Kelsie Anderson —  15 assists, 8 kills, 3 aces, 15 digs

• Allison Rose —  3 kills, 4 blocks, 9 digs

• Kate Deterding —  10 kills, 1 ace, 17 digs

• Haley Peterson — 7 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces, 8 digs

• Delaney Johnson — 27 assists, 11 digs, 2 aces

Hesston defeated Lyons in the other match, 25-14, 25-13. However, the loss to Smoky Valley knocked them out of first place in the CKL as they finished in second at 9-2.
