PHILADELPHIA — McPherson High graduate Tanner Hawkinson is on the move again.
Hawkinson, who was signed by the San Francisco 49ers after being released in the final NFL cuts by the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this summer, was signed Tuesday by the Philadelphia Eagles.
He has been immediately added to the 53-man active roster as the Eagles have cut Julian Vandervelde.
Hawkinson is in his third year in the NFL. He played four games in two seasons for the Bengals.
Philadelphia’s offensive line has been decimated by injuries. Hawkinson also fits the Eagles’ offensive style, as they are a team built more on quick linemen. Hawkinson was a tight end at the University of Kansas when he first arrived, but wound up making 48 straight starts in the offensive line.
