McPherson High’s girls tennis team will carry a No. 3 state ranking into the Class 4A State Tournament that begins on Friday at Winfield.

In the final KTCA poll released on Wednesday, Andover Central passed the Bullpups to move into the No. 2 spot. Both teams are chasing prohibitive state favorite Wichita Collegiate.

Buhler is ranked No. 4 and Independence is No. 5. Others to watch are Miege, Winfield and Coffeyville.

A precede of the state tournament was posted earlier. MHS has two doubles teams entered — Ellea Ediger-Rachel Ivers and Cassidy Corrigan-Maisie Edmonson.

Meanwhile, Hesston is ranked No. 1 in Class 3-2-1A. The Swathers go to Prairie Village for the state event on Friday and Saturday.

Morgan Holopirek and Tessa Isaac qualified for state in singles for the Swathers, while the doubles teams were 1-2 at last week’s regional — Olivia Brubacher-Katelyn Hageman and Abigail Decker-Kaitlyn Schrock.
