Fearless picking MHS to hand Abilene first loss

Fearless Forecaster is improving a percentage point at a time.

Our picker turned in his third straight 12-2 week to move to 68-21 on the year for 76 percent, up 1 percent from last week.

With districts in full-blown mode this week, there are more games, which means more opportunities for FF to move closer to his 80-percent goal.

The only losses for our picker last week came in the KCAC. He went with Bethany over Sterling (the Warriors won by 3) and also picked Bethel to beat Saint Mary (the Spires won on a last-minute field goal).

• AVCTL DIVISION III •

• McPherson 27, Abilene 21 — The MHS offense is going to have to keep pace since Abilene is sure to put plenty of points on the board behind dynamic quarterback “Handsome Harley” Hazlett.

• Buhler 34, Hays 7 — The Crusaders will have one eye on Hays, the other on McPherson since the Bullpups knocked them off last year.

• Augusta 42, Winfield 7 – What McPherson High wouldn’t give for the Orioles’ pud district.

• El Dorado 14, Circle 7 — A rare win for the Wildcats.

• Wellington 28, Rose Hill 6 — The Rockets could be heading toward an O-fer.

Last week — 3-0. Season — 20-3

• McPHERSON AREA •

• Sedgwick 38, Inman 7 — Tough stretch of games for the Teutons.

• Moundridge 27, Remington 14 — Make it three straight for the Wildcats.

• Nickerson 20, Smoky Valley 6 — The Vikings are decimated with injuries in the backfield.

• Little River 42, Canton-Galva 14 — The Redskins improve to 5-2.

• Hesston 49, Hillsboro 6 — This one screams for running clock.

Last week — 6-0. Season – 26-8.

• KCAC •

• Friends 31, McPherson College 7 — The Bulldogs are still looking for their first lead of the season.

• Bethany 35, Southwestern 14 — The Swedes have underachieved this year, but could finish strong.

• Tabor 28, Kansas Wesleyan 24 — The KCAC title could be on the line as both teams are 4-0.

• Ottawa 31, Saint Mary 21 — Ottawa could win out after losing to Tabor in the first week of conference play.

• Sterling 35, Bethel 33 — Sterling quarterback Cedric Phillips is easily the most dynamic newcomer in the KCAC this season.

Last week — 3-2. Season — 22-10.
