LYONS — Smoky Valley’s girls cross country team is the champion of the Central Kansas League.
The Vikings, behind Katie Adam’s second-place finish and a ninth by Maggie Lambert, won the championship on Thursday, while the boys — paced by Calvin Shannon (4th) and Logan Windholz (5th) — took second.
Gracie Lott also medaled for the girls by placing 15th, while Josh Peterson (14th) and Zach Lott (15th) medaled as well for the boys.
“I'm extremely proud of the way we competed at league,” Smoky Valley coach Holly Lindquist said. “The girls ran strong finishing as league champs. The boys had a tough matchup with Halstead and fell just short of the league championship. Halstead is a tough team and is ranked at the top of 3A right now, so I feel that we are just fine going into regional week. We have a big task ahead of us on both boys and girls sides this next weekend, but feel that the kids are motivated and ready to move onto a state berth.”
