McPherson Middle School’s volleyball teams closed out the home portion of their schedule on Thursday against Goddard Eisenhower.

A summary:

• 8th A Team •

A 21-25, 27-25, 16-14 victory. MMS is now 5-15 on the season.

“The girls played like I knew they could all season long and they finally had a close match go their way,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “After missing six serves the first set, we were able to minimize the mistakes over the next two sets. An energetic crowd was fueled by our team's great hustle plays and our team rallied to beat a good Eisenhower team.”

There were several standouts on the day, according to Gehrt.

“Ariana Potter, Anna Nason and Lakyn Schieferecke helped control the back row,” she said. “Andrea Sweat and Shelby Bontrager delivered some great sets while Cassie Cooks, Josie Strathman and Peyton Johnson were aggressive at the net. I was proud of the girls for fighting all the way until the final whistle blew.”

MMS competes Saturday at Newton in the league tourney.

Another three-setter that went the Bullpups’ way, 25-17, 11-25, 15-13. They finished with a 7-12 record.

“We ended our season tonight with a fun-and-competitive match” MMS coach Aimee McDaniel said. “The girls came out excited and ready to play. We served aggressive, passed consistent and communicated well. I am so proud of the team and their hard work this season. They improved so much. Super job Lady ‘Pups.”

• 7th A Team •

Another three-setter tilted toward MMS, 23-25, 25-11, 15-9. The team is now 11-9.

“I am so proud of how the girls pulled together and played as a team,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “We got stuck in a serve receive rotation in Set 1, but the girls kept pushing and made it a close game. They did a great job of covering tips and helping get the ball to our hitters.”

Bohme ticked off the names of several standouts.

“Hailey Henson set the ball well, did a great job of tip coverage. When she had to take the first pass, Megan Lulloff and Grace Pyle stepped up and took the set,” Bohme said. “We had great serving from Taylor Casebeer, Olivia Morgan, Hope Wehrman, Megan and Hailey. Hailey, Taylor and Olivia did a great job digging and hustling on the back row, and Addison Seidl and Katie Berg were great at the net. We played with energy and excitement.”

The Bullpups host a league meet on Saturday at the Roundhouse.

The Bullpups wrapped up 17-4 for the season after losing a thrilling three-setter (25-17, 15-25, 12-15).

“Tonight was a hard loss for us, being our last game of the season. The girls played so well tonight, just made too many simple mistakes. They played hard and stayed positive throughout the entire game and I couldn't ask for more from them. They are a very talented group of girls and should be proud of their 17-4 season,” MMS coach Abby Bradstreet said.
