Records are made to be broken and a major one fell Thursday night at Starlite Lanes.

In his first three games of the four-game Wendy's Classic League, Herb Halinski smashed the Starlite series record with an 848.

The old mark was 837 shared by Kyle Kruszynski and Dean Brungardt.

Twice in his first three games, Halinski was a strike away from a perfect game. He had a 298 and 295, with a 255 sandwiched in between. He finished with a 253 for a 1,081 series as the Wendy's League is the only four-set league.

"I felt a little bad about the 295, just didn't catch it but was more excited about shooting 800 anyway," said Halinski, who is McPherson High's bowling coach. "It was a good night. The conditions held up all night for me and great equipment drilled by Skip (Wilson)."

Gary Grant, in the Mac County League, also made a run at a 300 game, finishing two pins shy on his final throw for a 298. He also had a 716 series.
