Veterans Day plans solidifying

Plans have been solidified for the McPherson Veterans Day celebration coming up in just under a month.

Dan Hervey, Chairman of the McPherson Area Veterans Committee, is hoping for better conditions this year after single-digit wind chills forced the 2014 parade to be canceled.

“The first time that I can ever remember that we had to cancel the parade,” Hervey said. “Fortunately, having our ceremony inside at the [McPherson] Park Department, we were able to proceed with the rest of the program for a terrific day.”

The keynote speaker this year will be McPherson Mayor Tom Brown.

“[Brown] was a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was combat wounded in Vietnam,” Hervey said.

The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11 in front of the American Legion on North Main Street and end up at the Park Department building on First Street.

The ceremony will be held in the old drill hall following the parade at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast on KBBE for those who cannot be in attendance.
