COLUMBIA, Mo. — An 0-2 performance on Saturday left Central Christian College’s volleyball team with a 1-3 record in the two-day Stephens College Invitational.
CCC, 1-1 on Friday, lost to Benedictine (11-25, 15-25, 20-25) in the first match Saturday and Central Missouri State in the second (14-25, 12-25, 22-25).
“Our losses came at the hands of two really talented programs today,” said CCC coach Christina Ludwick, whose team is now 16-12. “We played far better today than we did yesterday, but against these programs it just wasn't enough. We continue to battle against bigger, more experienced teams and I'm proud of the energy and fight our girls put forward today. As a coaching staff, though, we are fully aware that merely competing with bigger programs is not enough. We believe we can beat these teams and we're committed to finding ways to do that."
She was pleased with the play of Rhylee Richardson and Shauna Hamilton.
“While their stats may not reflect it fully, I'm extremely proud of Rhylee Richardson and Shauna Hamilton,” she said. “They both lost starting spots the first week into the season and have been working their tails off waiting for another opportunity. We've worked them both back into the lineup and have done their jobs exceptionally well. This weekend we played some of the better competition in our schedule and they didn't flinch. I'm excited about their production as we move toward post season."
CCC’s Haley Bannister was named to the All-Tourney Team.
Central plays at York College in Nebraska on Friday.
