HUTCHINSON — McPherson High’s JV volleyball team placed third in the AVCTL Championships on Saturday.

The Bullpups had taken second in their pool with a 2-1 record, with the wins coming against Campus (25-18, 25-15) and Salina Central (25-15, 25-14). In the Campus match, the Bullpups had a whopping 18 aces, while committing just six hitting errors in the Salina Central match.

MHS’ pool loss came to Newton (23-25, 22-25). Coach Diane Marshall said the team served and passed well, but had too many errors at the net.

In the semifinals, the Bullpups lost 18-25, 19-25 to Maize before bouncing back to defeat Hutchinson for third, 25-18, 25-17. Against the Salthawks, the Bullpups served up 15 aces.

“All-in-all, I am very proud of the way the girls played,” Marshall said. “Even in the tough losses, we held our core values and played together as a team.”

The Bullpups, 22-9, complete their season on Tuesday at Clearwater.
