Results were a little delayed due to some issues with the trophy, but the McPherson Police Department won the Battle of the Badges blood drive held in August.
Tammy Hunnell with the American Red Cross says the police department won with 100 votes, while McPherson EMS received 82 and the fire department 64. Hunnell adds MPD Officer Jerry Montagne was the top recruiter in the three service agencies.
“Congratulations to the police department,” Hunnell said. “And big congratulations to Jerry for being the top recruiter of all three agencies once again with recruiting 58 donors.”
As for the blood drive, itself, Hunnell reports that the Red Cross took in 187 units of blood. The goal had been 236.
“It was still a great drive, considering we were able to help about 560 patients,” Hunnell said. “And that, as we all know, is the real reason why we continue to do this Battle of the Badges blood drive.”
Hunnell also thanked Dairy Queen and Wendy's for providing food in the canteen for donors after they donated.
