TOWANDA — It was little more than a tune-up for McPherson High’s volleyball team on Tuesday, as the Bullpups brushed up with a triangular sweep.
MHS, which did not lose a triangular match all season, blew by Circle (25-9, 25-22) and Clearwater (25-23, 25-17).
MHS completed regular-season play with a 32-7 record as all its losses came in tournament play, all of them to ranked teams.
“Very pleased with the start,” said MHS coach Christy Doile, whose team ran roughshod over Circle 25-9 to set the tone. “Stats were good this evening. Only stat to improve would be aces-to-serving-error ratio. Our middles put up a good hitting percentages this evening. Our effort and finishing plays were a positive. We had some extremely long rallies with both teams, and we won most of the long rallies.”
Megan Pedersen had an amazing night with the volleyball version of a triple-double with 18 kills, 20 assists and 19 digs.
The Bullpups now look ahead to a brutal sub-state on Saturday at Buhler, as three of the four teams are ranked. Abilene and Hays round out the field, which means at least two very good teams won’t be advancing to Salina next week.
The MHS JVs stumbled at the start with a 26-28 loss to Circle, but then charged back for 28-26 and 25-18 wins. Clearwater was a no-contest with 25-4, 25-11 wins.
The Bullpups were 24-9 on the season.
