Bullpups will be an underdog on Friday

Fearless Forecaster needs one more big week to reach his goal.

Fearless was 13-2 last week to move to 81-23 on the year, or 78 percent.

A perfect week might get him there.

The losses last week were by McPherson High (Abilene won 26-17 after being down 17-7) and Bethany (the Swedes continued to underachieve, no way they should have been dominated by Southwestern after having seen both teams play).

There are two more weeks of picks.

• AVCTL DIVISION III •

• Buhler 35, McPherson 20 — The Bullpups will be game, but Buhler is highly motivated after last year’s shocker at McPherson Stadium and will enter the game with cruel intentions.

• Augusta 32, Coffeyville 12 — Augusta’s Jason Filbeck is the D-III Coach of the Year. A vote isn’t even required.

• Topeka Hayden 58, El Dorado 7 – Yikes, this could get really ugly.

• Ulysses 40, Rose Hill 0 — Ditto.

• Independence 21, Winfield 14 — This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for my alma mater Bulldogs. But a win here and it’s 6-2 on the season.

Last week — 4-1. Season — 24-4.

• McPHERSON AREA •

• Troy 35, Inman 6 — The Teutons have fallen into a losing rut.

• Sacred Heart 30, Moundridge 21 — The Wildcats’ winning streak ends at three.

• Hesston 27, Council Grove 12 — The Swathers keep their district title hopes alive.

• Wamego 14, Smoky Valley 7 — The Vikings’ offensive struggles continue.

• Ellinwood 34, Little River 20 — The Eagles played undefeated Solomon close for a half. That says they're a pretty decent team.

• Goessel 52, Canton-Galva 14 — The Bluebirds are going to spread the Eagles all over the field and tire them out.

Last week — 5-0. Season — 31-8.

• KCAC •

• Saint Mary 35, McPherson College 10 — This season can’t get over fast enough for the Bulldogs, who are going to need reinforcements for next season.

• Kansas Wesleyan 38, Bethany 24 — As poorly as the Swedes played last week, this rivalry game will stoke their competitive juices. A lot depends on the health of KW’s star quarterback Jake Curran, who injured an ankle last week. If he doesn’t play, is that upset bells I hear ringing?

• Ottawa 31, Sterling 17 — The Braves look to win out and finish with just one KCAC loss.

• Tabor 28, Friends 13  — Friends doesn’t have near the skill-position players of past teams.

• Southwestern 14, Bethel 13 — That Southwestern defense is playing tough.

Last week — 4-1. Season — 26-11.
