There is no Class 4A Division I and Division II when it comes to cross country.
It’s all just Class 4A.
And McPherson High hopes to continue its season on Saturday when it competes in the 4A regional meet at Hays.
The boys start at 11:30 a.m., with the girls at noon. The top three teams qualify in each division, as well the Top 10 runners, with the possibility of additional individual qualifiers.
The Bullpup boys are coming off a second-place league finish last week and the girls were third. For either to make the Top 3, they’re going to need their performance of the season.
Other teams are Abilene, Buhler, Chapman, Clay Center, Concordia, Goodland, Hays, Holcomb, Hugoton, Smoky Valley, Nickerson, Rock Creek, Ulysses and Wamego.
Keep an eye on Smoky Valley. The Viking boys have a dynamic 1-2 punch in Calvin Shannon and Logan Windholz, while Katie Adam is a standout on the girls’ side. Holly Lindquist perhaps has her strongest program in all her years of coaching.
The 4A state event is Oct. 31 at Wamego. Classes 1A, 2A and 4A will be contested there, with the 4A girls at 11:30 and the 4A boys at 1:45 p.m.
