Kansas Lieutenant-Governor Jeff Colyer is making a stop in McPherson County next week.
Colyer will be stopping by Elyria Christian School Tuesday morning to talk about his career as a public servant and the importance of volunteerism. Colyer's speech will be a public event at the school, though he will also meet with students in government class prior to his presentation.
“We are really honored and excited to have the Kansas Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Colyer, visit with our students and share his experiences,” Eric Clark, Elyria Christian School Administrator, said.
For more than 25 years, Dr. Colyer has volunteered as a surgeon in dangerous warzones such as Afghanistan, Iraq, the Balkans, Libya, Syria and Africa. Colyer was an International Medical Corps volunteer and the only surgeon in southern Rwanda during the genocide that killed 800,000 people.
Colyer also served as a White House Fellow under President Ronald Reagan and President George H.W. Bush in international affairs.
The event is slated to begin at 10:45 a.m.
