MOUNDRIDGE — In one fell swoop here Saturday, the volleyball season ended for four McPherson area teams.
Moundridge hosted a loaded Class 2A sub-state, with half the field including teams from the area.
Little River and Inman both went out in the first round. The Redskins lost to eventual champion and undefeated (38-0) Central Plains, 9-25, 10-25.
In yet another showdown of county schools, Moundridge ended Inman’s season with a pair of 25-21 wins.
The Wildcats would go on to lose to Central Plains in the semifinals, 17-25, 13-25.
Canton-Galva was able to snare a first-round victory over Ellinwood (15-25, 26-24, 25-10). The Eagles then lost to Hillsboro in straight sets (25-15, 25-17) in the semifinals.
With its victory over Ellinwood, Canton-Galva reached the 20-win plateau for the first time in many years as it experienced a monumental turnaround season under first-year coach Kaitlyn Bressie. The Eagles closed out 20-15.
In a titanic championship match, Central Plains outlasted Hillsboro 25-17, 14-25, 25-13, which ended the Trojans’ state championship match run.
Moundridge was 14-23, Inman was 18-16 and Little River was 6-26.
