WINFIELD — McPherson College’s cross country team made its final preparations for the KCAC Championships by turning in a good performance during Saturday’s Mid-States Classic hosted by Southwestern College.
The Mac men were first among the seven KCAC schools and fifth overall. The Mac women were in the middle of the pack, taking fifth among the 10 KCAC schools that competed, while taking 14th overall.
"I was pleased with how the team looked in our tune-up before the KCAC," Mac coach Cameron Magnall said. "We handled the larger field very well and I'm excited to see how all the hard work will pay off in two weeks."
Dixon Cooney was 14th in a personal-best of 26:13.10 and led not only his team but the KCAC. Michael Janzer (26:50.70) fifth among KCAC runners and 31st overall.
Felix Cervantes (27:14.10) and Jesse Freeman (27:50.50) rounded out the Top 4. Jerod Fuller, Jonathan Dominguez and Kurt Katzdorn each finished within four seconds of each other between 28:05 and 28:10.
Laura Gibson topped the Mac women in 19:50. Miranda Clark Ulrich was next at 21:02.40 and then Taylor Dreiling was at 21:32.40. Savana Cross wasn't far behind with her time of 21:39.80 and Lauren Wankum was the final scoring MC athlete, crossing at 22:13.90.
The KCAC Championships are Nov. 7 at Marion Reservoir, hosted by Tabor.
