Central Christian College’s women’s basketball team makes its 2015-16 debut tonight when it goes on the road to play Southwestern Christian University.
Tipoff is 6 p.m. in Bethany, Okla.
Chris Honeck enters his third year as Lady Tiger coach. Central has a host of players back from last year’s team that finished 10-21.
Southwestern Christian is 0-2 on the season, but has played two KCAC schools. It lost its opener 102-73 to Oklahoma Wesleyan and followed that up with a 69-63 setback to Southwestern College.
Maranda Jantz fired in 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Southwestern Christian its its game against the Moundbuilders.
The Lady Tigers have several players still competing for the wildly successful women’s soccer team, so they won’t be at full strength tonight. Seniors on the team this year include Libby Brooks, Ciara Costello, Savannah Fairchild, Krystina Stackhouse, Olivia Richard and Kylie Laskowski.
Honeck brought in six freshmen to bolster the ranks.
With the dissolving of the MCAC, Central is playing a schedule that’s highlighted by seven games against KCAC schools, including its home opener Friday against Kansas Wesleyan. There are also six games against former MCAC members.
