Swathers host Owls tonight

The Hesston Swathers will be home tonight for the first round of the Class 3A football playoffs.

The Swathers host Garden Plain at 7 p.m.

Both teams enter the game 8-1 and both lost to undefeated Halstead. The Owls gave the Dragons their best game of the year as Halstead survived, 32-28. Hesston lost to Halstead 18-6, but that was way back in Week 2.

If the Swathers triumph, they would most likely have a return match with Wichita Collegiate, which ended their season last year. The Spartans, though, must get past tradition-rich Conway Springs tonight.

Hesston will need a big game from quarterback Zach Esau, who has done a tremendous job in his first year as he replaced All-Stater Grant Raleigh. He has a tremendous group of receivers, led by Zach Vogt and Scott Duerksen.
