A spectacular end to a spectacular regular season.
Central Christian College’s women’s soccer team put the finishing touches on a 15-3 regular season here Tuesday as it swamped Manhattan Christian College 9-0 before a festive and appreciative crowd.
“It was a wonderful note to finish the regular season on,” said CCC coach Scott Fogarty, whose team was 5-11-1 last season. “We wanted to move the ball around and really attack from different spots on the field. We wanted to be unpredictable with our attacks and I think we did that for most of the game. We got goals and assists from a lot of different players tonight, including several firsts. Madison Strickland finally broke her duck, as well as Mia Ota and Elizabeth Hottle. I'm pleased with how we have progressed and improved individually and as a team over the course of 18 games. It's a wonderful feeling being 15-3 and knowing that no one can take that away from these girls."
Strickland, Krystina Stackhouse and Haley McMath scored two goals each to lead the Lady Tigers. Singletons were by Hottle, Ota and Nikki Neal. It was a 5-0 game at the half.
Shannon Fontenot picked up the win in goal.
The reward for an amazing season is a trip to Georgia for the AII Championships, hosted by Georgia Gwinnet. Central plays Mount Mercy at 6 p.m. a week from today.
