LINDSBORG — McPherson College’s women’s soccer team was halfway home to an upset on Friday in the first round of the KCAC Postseason Tournament, but Bethany stormed back with three second-half goals for a 4-2 victory.
Mac’s Breelyn Petty scored with 2 seconds left in the first half to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead, but the Swedes rallied as Sarah Henderson, Christina Noonan and Jeana-Brinae Russell all scored after intermission.
Noonan had scored a goal to open the game before Mac’s Amy Stockton, off a Cydney Lewis assist, tied it at 1-1.
Bethany outshot Mac, 17-9. The Bulldogs’ Sheryl Evans made four saves, the same number as Bethany’s Jovan Canales.
Mac finished the year 9-8-1 as men’s coach Doug Quint took over the program and directed the Bulldogs to a winning season.
“After coming off a season like they had last year, these ladies really adapted and bought into the new coaching staff's culture,” Quint said. “It showed with the product that was on the field every day. Not only did we flip the record around, we had multiple Players of the Week honors, made the postseason tournament, finished with a winning record for the first time in four years and broke multiple team records. Our seniors really worked hard to lay this new foundation for the future. It was an absolute pleasure to coach these young women.”
Bethany, 10-6-3, advances to Thursday’s semifinals in Topeka against No. 1 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan. Game time will be 5 p.m.
