Hutchinson man arrested in McPherson after stabbing

A man wanted in connection with a Hutchinson stabbing was located in McPherson Monday afternoon.

According to the Hutchinson News, McPherson County Sheriff's deputies located 34-year-old Derek Scaife in McPherson after the Hutchinson Police Department issued a notice to be on the lookout for a 2014 black Toyota Corolla.

Scaife was wanted after allegedly bringing a knife into his ex-wife's home around 1:20 p.m. Monday and getting into an altercation with her current boyfriend, Amado Martinez, during which Scaife stabbed Martinez under his arm in the torso. The wound is not considered life-threatening.

Scaife then took his two children, a 3-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, and drove away, only to be found an hour later in McPherson.

Scaife was charged with domestic aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, domestic battery and domestic criminal damage to property. His bond was set at $38,000 and he was booked into the Reno County Correctional Facility.
