The McPherson Kiwanis Club, Lions Club and Boy Scouts are currently having their annual Christmas Food Basket Project, and the student-athletes of McPherson College are giving their time to help with the distribution of the grocery sacks and the collection of food.

"This is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to impact and serve the McPherson community," McPherson College Director of Athletics Andrew Ehling said. "The Kiwanis Club puts together a phenomenal food drive and we hope to be involved with this project for years to come."

The sacks were distributed on Nov. 7 and will be collected in the morning of the 14th. Items you can put in your grocery sacks are all non-perishable food; please no glass containers or expired food.

One of the many MC teams helping with the distribution was the softball squad. Head Coach Ashley Spencer said that, "'being able to help those close to home is something great for our team and athletic department."

Assistant baseball coach Eric Martinez said that the baseball coaching staff "are constantly stressing what a privilege it is to be a college athlete and the importance of being an active member of the community, and I think our guys really do understand that. The Kiwanis Club Food Drive is a great way for them to be active in our community and give back to the people that support them."

If you are looking to donate, but will not be at home on November 14, you can call either Bob Carson, Kiwanis Food Basket Chairman, or Judy Carson, Kiwanis President, at 242-4129 or 241-5899, respectively.
