LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Central Christian College’s women’s soccer team is down, but not out.
The Lady Tigers’ run in the AII Championships ended on Thursday with a 3-1 semifinal loss to No. 2 seed Georgia Gwinnett, but they’ll now move on to play in the NCCAA Central Regional Tournament next week.
Central was down to the Grizzlies 1-0 in the first half before Isabel Sierra tied the game with a 40-yard bomb.
The Grizzlies scored before the half for a 2-1 lead, then added another goal in the second half.
Shayna Watkins was under siege in goal for the Lady Tigers, coming up with seven acrobatic saves.
“I'm extremely proud of this team and the work they put in, not only today but all season,” CCC coach Scott Fogarty said. “We've taken huge steps since last season and the beginning of this season. Tonight we just ran into a very good Georgia Gwinnett team. You can't win them all, but we can learn from them all. It's a growing and learning experience for us to be this far in postseason. Now we shift focus to the NCCAA tournament."
Central takes a 16-4 record into the regional, with the pairings to be announced.
