Smoky Valley school board members moved the sale of the former Marquette Elementary School building to the City of Marquette forward during it's meeting on Monday evening.

The board voted 5-0 to sell the building, the kitchen equipment and the bus barn to the City of Marquette for $1.

The school was closed following the 2013-2014 school year, a move that brought forth a clash between Marquette residents and USD 400, with some residents threatening to remove their students from Smoky Valley and send them to the nearby Little River district.

According to the board minutes of their Oct. 12 meeting, the transaction is to carry no stipulations or qualifiers from USD 400.
