WAXAHACHIE, Texas — Central Christian College’s women’s soccer team lived to play another day.

The Lady Tigers scratched out a 1-0 overtime victory over Southwestern Christian University on Thursday in the opening round of the NCCAA Central Regional.

Isabel Sierra scored the golden goal for the Lady Tigers after an assist by Nikki Neal, just moments into the overtime period.

Shayna Watkins was stellar in goal for Central to pick up the shutout.

“We're excited to be moving on, especially after a very sloppy first half,” CCC coach Scott Fogarty said. “We misplaced more passes than we completed and really were our worst enemy in the opening stanza. At the break, we asked for patience and purpose in attack. The girls came through and we began connecting passes and really putting them under pressure. As it turned out, we needed more patience than expected as we went to overtime, but we found the breakthrough we needed. Our backline did a good job limiting their opportunities and the two they did have, Shayna Watkins made two very nice saves. We'll have our hands full tomorrow but if we carry our second-half performance into Friday, we'll give ourselves a fighting chance."

Central, now 17-4, has a monumental task today when it plays Oklahoma Wesleyan, which lost in the KCAC championship game last week. Game time this morning is 11:00.
