McPherson College announced the winners of the Global Enterprise Challenge late last week.
The winning tandem was seniors Ste'fon Walker and Jasmine Benson, who presented a social media campaign using the hashtag #TogetherWeWill. Benson and Walker both were guests on the Nov. 16 Bulldog 30 and said the focus of this year's Challenge was the Haiti Medical Project.
“[The Haiti Medical Project] started with the funds raised by the local McPherson College Church of the Brethren right after the earthquake in 2010,” Benson said. “They go down there to help provide mobile clinics to those who need it.”
According to Walker, by the end of 2012, the mobile clinics had seen well over 1,200 people. He said a long-term focus of the project is to provide healthy, clean water to Haiti.
“And also midwives,” Walker said. “They have a lot of problems with people being seen, health-wise. Having people down there to help deliver babies and to produce clean water is the total focus.”
Walker and Benson had raised $150 for the Haiti Medical Project in just a few days through their GoFundMe account. The pair will travel to Haiti in 2016 with Dr. Paul Ullom-Minnich. It was Ullom-Minnich's efforts in a medical mission to Haiti in 2010 that led to the creation of the Haiti Medical Project.
