While McPherson tries to dig itself out of the ice storm that has paralyzed parts of the city, Central Christian College’s women’s soccer team is in the sunny climes of Florida today for the first round of the NCCAA National Tournament.
The Lady Tigers, 18-5 on the season, are taking on Trinity Christian College at 1 p.m. in Kissimmee, Fla. They play Mississippi College at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with their final pool play game at 4 p.m. Thursday against Trinity Lutheran.
There are two pools, with the two first-place teams playing for the national championship.
Central qualified as one of the two at-large selections. It is the No. 5 seed overall, with Mississippi College the No. 1 seed. This is the Lady Tigers’ first national appearance since 2000.
Central won only five games all of last year, but turned things around this year under the guidance of second-year coach Scott Fogarty. The team has only two seniors, Krystina Stackhouse and Haley McMath.
