WICHITA — Bethany College’s women played even-steven with NCAA Division II school Newman University for a quarter on Monday, but it was all Jets over the next two quarters as they came away with a 69-45 victory.
The teams battled to a 16-all draw in the first quarter, but Newman outscored Bethany 42-15 over the middle two quarters.
Turnovers did the Swedes in as they committed 25. They also were just 15 of 45 from the field (3 of 11 from 3-point) and cashed in only 12 of 29 free throws.
Adriane Davis led the Swedes with 14 points and Erin O’Connor had one of her best games of the year with 12. Dominique Davis led in rebounding with six.
Since Newman is an NCAA Division II school, the game doesn’t count toward the Swedes’ record. They take a 3-5 mark into Thursday’s home game against Tabor.
