GODDARD — It was an overpowering start to the basketball season Tuesday for the McPherson seventh-grade girls.
The Bullpups overwhelmed Goddard in both games to enjoy a successful road trip.
The A-team held Goddard scoreless during a 25-0 first half and went on for a 41-11 rout.
Grace Pyle led a balanced attack with 14 points.
“The girls played well for the first game of the season,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “I thought we brought great energy and hustle to the floor and our defense led to some easy baskets. We shared the ball well throughout the game, but we need to work on some offensive patience.”
The B-team also held Goddard scoreless in the first half. It was 38-0 at the break and the final was 56-4.
“The girls did a very good job defensively and ran the offense very well for the first game out,” MMS coach Grant Myers said. “It is going to be a fun season coaching this group.”
Shelby Yowell’s 16 points led the way, while Alexa Bell furnished 14.
The Bullpups make their home debut Thursday against Maize South, with game time 5 p.m. at Park School.
