It wasn’t the kind of start that McPherson seventh-grade boys basketball coach Tim Hein had envisioned.
His team found itself behind 17-0 at the outset of the game here Tuesday against Goddard, but once it shook off the jitters it played reasonably well the rest of the way in a 45-32 loss.
“We made a nice comeback to cut it to single digits, but unfortunately they hit their free throws down the stretch to put it away,” Hein said.
Max Alexander scored 18 points to top the Bullpups.
The B-team lost, 34-15. Brennan Gipson and Logan Ediger led the balanced scoring with three points apiece.
MMS plays Thursday at Maize South.
