MAIZE — McPherson’s seventh-grade A-boys evened their basketball record at 1-1 on Thursday by snaring a 34-22 road victory against Maize South.
The Alexander cousins, Max and Jayton, scored 14 and 12 points, respectively, to lead the Bullpups.
“We jumped out to a 21-11 halftime lead,” said MMS coach Tim Hein, whose team trailed 17-0 at the start of its opener earlier in the week. “We actually won each quarter, which I was proud of. With the lead down the stretch, we showed some maturity with patience on the offensive end making them come out and guard or foul us. The boys did a nice job making their free throws in the fourth quarter.”
The B-team fell to 0-2 after a narrow 35-31 loss. Zac Butler’s eight points led a balanced attack.
MMS is home Monday to take on Goddard Eisenhower.
