EL DORADO — It seemed so quiet.

It seemed so Taylor Robertson.

The stoic 5-9 sophomore, who broke the McPherson High girls' single-game scoring record last year with 41 points, looked every bit in midseason form in Friday's season opener as she scored 30 points in a 69-24 Bullpup rout of El Dorado.

Robertson drained 12 of 16 shots and all three of her free throws in a game that went to running clock in the final quarter. She scored 19 of her points in the first half as MHS sprinted to a 42-14 lead.

"The main time I saw her smile tonight was when she made a nice pass to Rylee Schrader for a layup and that's the kind of kid she is," MHS coach Chris Strathman said. "She's unselfish and obviously 12 of 16 from the field and 30 points is pretty efficient. She's just a joy to watch. The other kids need to enjoy playing with that."

Sophomore teammate Mandi Cooks battled foul trouble, but did add nine points and was a defensive presence as she altered numerous shots. Off the bench, Schrader — another sophomore — knocked down a couple of 3-pointers and furnished eight points.

Destiny Smith led El Dorado with eight points. MHS' stingy defense limited the Wildcats to just 9 of 31 from the field.

"We have a long ways to go still," Strathman said. "They got a few things against us that they wanted to get and we need to be able to take away the opponent's strengths a little better than we did tonight."

In the JV game, the Bullpups rolled to a 41-7 rout as they held the Wildcats totally in check with four points in the first half and three in the second. Schrader scored 13 points to lead the Bullpups, while Riley Hett just missed double figures with nine.

There was no freshman game due to a lack of numbers for the Wildcats.

The Bullpups remain on the road Tuesday to take on Andover.
