8th girls play awesome defense during sweep

GODDARD — McPherson’s eighth-grade girls had the defensive dragnet out on Monday.

The Bullpups strafed Goddard Eisenhower in a pair of road basketball games, 46-7 in the A-game and 41-5 in the B-game.

“Another road victory for both teams and a much better job trying to run our offensive stuff,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “We did a good job getting the ball inside and we finished well. It was a great effort by both teams and I saw some improvements, which is a good sign for us and the girls were excited to see what we have been working on in practice is working games.”

In the A-game, Andrea Sweat lit it up for 18 points and Cassie Cooks tallied 11. Kaliah Tice was on fire in the B-game with 16 points and Rachel Carlson chipped in with 10.

Both teams are now 3-0. They stay on the road Thursday to play Andover Central.

MMS B (41) — Johnson 2, Collins 2, Pham 4, Cecenas 5, Carlson 10, Tice 18.
