aMOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge Wildcat girls appear to be in midseason form.
The Wildcats, the Class 2A state runner-up last year, throttled Lyons 58-24 Tuesday during their opening night of their annual three-day round-robin event.
The Wildcats bedazzled Lyons with their quickness early, jumping out to a 16-6 lead. It was 35-17 by halftime.
Ashley Holler, who had 36 points on Friday, scored 15 to lead MHS and Natalie Kaufman scored 12.
The Wildcats are matched against Hillsboro on Thursday.
The Moundridge boys suffered their first loss, 50-46, as a 12-6 third quarter broke open a tight game as it was 24-23 at the half with the Lions ahead.
Anthony Otte scored 14 of his 24 points in the second half to lead Moundridge. Kyle Stucky was next with seven.
Dylan Sugars had a nice floor game with four steals and three assists.
“The game was tight throughout,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “We have to find more balance in our scoring. Tough shooting night from the perimeter, but we have to get on the glass and get more second-chance opportunities. The kids didn't quit.”
