On Wall of Fame Night here Friday, two potential future candidates propelled the McPherson High girls to a 68-52 victory over Winfield.

Bullpup sophomores Taylor Robertson and Mandi Cooks combined for 46 points as they are well on their way to building resumes that would perhaps qualify them for the exclusive club.

Robertson poured in 20 of her 30 points in the first half, while Cooks scored 16 and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Both were highly efficient, Robertson making 12 of 18 shots from the floor — 6 of 8 from 3-point — while Cooks was 7 of 12 as she as usual used the glass to her advantage with a soft touch.

The Vikings were a pesky lot, however. Each time it appeared MHS was going to leave them behind, they would knock down a 3-pointer or two to keep within striking range. For the game the Vikes were 7 of 19 from beyond the arc, led by Abby Bertholf as she scored 14 points, including four treys.

"We talked after the El Dorado game that each game gets progressively tougher leading up to Abilene," MHS coach Chris Strathman said. "And it's worked out that way. We know we'll have our hands full (at Abilene) on Tuesday. Winfield hit some 3s and maintained shouting distance. They have some girls who can shoot and they proved it."

The Bullpups were ahead 20-14 after a quarter and pushed it out to 35-21 at the half. Winfield never got it under double digits the rest of the way.

The MHS JVs were a 55-24 winner as Rylee Schrader tallied 10 points and Jordan Bruner  added nine.

The ninth-grade girls got it all started with a 51-20 rout. Balance was the optimum word as Maggie Leaf led the way with eight points and eight players in all scored.
