Two games, two wins for the McPherson seventh-grade boys basketball teams here Monday against Derby North.
The A-team was a 44-34 winner as North had no answer for McPherson’s Max Alexander, who scored 21 points.
“We were not great tonight,” MMS coach Tim Hein said. “Seemed like we could never get into a rhythm. Have to credit Derby North for that I guess. Our defense was good though. We won all four quarters. Our non-starters (Aaron Powell, Adam Elliott, Dylan Rinker) did a nice job coming off the bench and closing the game out for us. Something we were struggling to do.”
The team is now 4-0 since a season-opening loss.
The B-team methodically scored a 32-19 triumph. Quincy Gerbrandt scored eight points to lead MMS and he also yanked down 11 rebounds.
“Gerbrandt really dominated the paint this game,” Hein said. “The B-team has really shown improvement this first month of the season.”
The B-team is now 3-2.
McPherson goes to Hutchinson on Thursday for the final game of the 2015 portion of the schedule.
