HESSTON — The Hesston Swathers weren’t very kind hosts to Central Kansas League opponent Smoky Valley on Tuesday.

The Swather girls gave up, in order, 1, 1, 2 and 3 points in the respective four quarters in a 45-7 rout.

The Vikings actually played good defense, giving up just 19 points in the first half, but couldn’t make up for their offensive woes.

Cami Richardson led Hesston with 15 points. Kylie Brenneman, Kailey Jo Ince and Katelyn Hageman all added seven.

Katie Bellah scored six of the seven points for Smoky.

• HESSTON BOYS 44, SMOKY VALLEY 26 — It was hardly an offensive masterpiece for the Swathers, but it was a defensive gem.

The Swathers stifled the Vikings in the first half to mount a 30-6 lead. The Vikings actually won the second half 20-14, though Hesston coach Greg Raleigh played his bench liberally.

No Hesston players hit for double figures as Scott Duerksen and Garrett Roth scored nine points apiece, Roth’s coming on three 3-pointers. The Vikings were led by Nick Reinert with 11 points.
