INMAN — It was a long time coming as far as Inman boys coach Brett Froese was concerned.

The youthful Teuton basketball team finally notched its first victory of the season on Friday as Christmas is going to be a whole lot happier now.

Inman held off Central Christian, 56-51

“We played pretty well tonight,” said Froese, whose team had been averaging under 40 points though it had played some tough competition. “We finally scored some points. Central has a pretty nice team. They can spread you out and really shoot it. I was proud of how hard my kids played. Keaton Case and Lucas Barlow played great tonight. Mason Thiessen, a freshman, also had a really nice overall game. We have gotten so much better since the beginning of the year, but we needed a win to show for it.”

The Teutons led by only two going into the fourth quarter before salting it away.

Case scored 19 points to lead the Teutons while Barlow scored 14 and Payton Froese added 13.

• INMAN GIRLS 29, CENTRAL CHRISTIAN 26 — The Teutons have become the masters of the close game.

Inman outscored Central Christian 11-2 in the final quarter. Its three wins have been by a total of seven points.

The Teutons had to overcome a 10-0 shutout in the first quarter. They pulled within 15-11 at the half, but still trailed 24-18 going into the fourth quarter.

Naomi Williams led Inman with 12 points.
