LINDSBORG — Two Nick Reinert free throws with .3 seconds left gave Smoky Valley its first win of the year on Friday, 48-46 over Halstead.

It was a great game from start to finish as the teams were seldom separated by more than a few baskets.

Reinert’s free throws capped a terrific performance as he burned the cords for 22 points. Smoky Valley had opened the season with a brutal schedule, having lost to big-time powers Abilene, Concordia and Hesston.

• HALSTEAD GIRLS 35, SMOKY VALLEY 25 — Halstead held the Vikings’ offense in check, including the fourth quarter when they managed only two points.

Katie Bellah’s 10 points led the Vikes.
