ABILENE — McPherson High’s wrestling team didn’t take a full contingent to Saturday’s Abilene Invitational, thus the sixth-place finish.
But this was more about quality than quantity.
Led by Ty Goss’ 5-0 performance to win the heavyweight championship, Bullpup coach Doug Kretzer was pleased with the day.
“Good finish to the first half of the season,” Kretzer said. “Ty Goss had a good weekend with a statement win in the final match. We've really tested ourselves in the last two weeks by attending a couple of really tough tournaments. The kids have really worked hard in the practice room. I feel like we've made some big gains. I like where we are as a team. It's time for a break, then back to the grind after Christmas.”
Austin Eldredge and Kaleb Jost, at 132 and 182, respectively, took second place. Brynton Crews also was second at 126, though he wrestled unattached.
Cole Kretzer and Ben Hopkins were third at 120 and 126, respectively.
