McPherson College has a new volleyball coach.

The school announced today that Jessica Cleveland has been hired to direct the Bulldogs’ fortunes.

She replaces Susan Barton, who recently resigned after eight years and a 92-168 record.

Cleveland has spent the past five years as head volleyball coach at Hesston College, including a 42-20 record the past two seasons.

"I'm very excited about Jessica joining the family at McPherson College," McPherson College Athletic Director Andrew Ehling said. "She has proven to be hard working and persistent while building the program at Hesston College. I look forward to seeing what she can accomplish with our volleyball program at McPherson College."

"I am looking forward to joining the McPherson College campus and athletic department," said Cleveland, a Nebraska native. "I am excited for this opportunity and taking this program to a higher level. I am walking into a gym with talented and hungry players, which makes me hopeful for what we can accomplish. My goal is to bring a positive, competitive environment in the gym and good character ladies on and off the court."

Cleveland also has been the director of the Hesston Wellness Center for more than four years.

She is a 2006 graduate of Hesston College, then attended Friends University where she earned her Bachelors of Health Management in 2008. She received her Master's in Exercise Science from Wichita State University in 2010.

McPherson College finished in last place this past season in the KCAC, but all the players were underclassmen except for three seniors.
