McPherson College’s women’s basketball team will wrap up the 2015 portion of its schedule this week by competing Tuesday and Wednesday in the Ribcrib Classic hosted by Kansas Wesleyan in Salina.

The Bulldogs will step up in competition by playing Dakota State at 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Mount Marty College at noon on Wednesday. Both are considered among the better small-college teams in South Dakota.

Both games will be aired on 96.7 KBBE-FM with Chris Swick handling the play-by-play call.

Both Dakota State and Mount Marty are 8-5 on the season. Of the two, the best chance for the Bulldogs probably will come against Dakota State as Mount Marty just recently beat that team by 20 points, and is coming off a huge upset of No. 3-ranked Hastings College of Nebraska.

Also, Mount Marty has played top-ranked Morningside College within 10 points and lost by five points to No. 4-ranked Briar Cliff as it has played among the toughest schedules in the country.

The Mac women are 5-10 on the season, 3-5 in the KCAC including a pair of last-second losses. They finished pre-Christmas strong with pressure-cooker wins over Oklahoma Wesleyan and Southwestern Christian University, teams with high-caliber pedigrees. The win over Oklahoma Wesleyan came in overtime, while the Bulldogs defeated Southwestern Christian on a late 3-pointer by Sunny Smart.

When the New Year starts, Mac plays host to York College on Jan. 7 before returning to KCAC action Jan. 9 hosting Sterling.
