The City of McPherson recognized retiring Community Development Director Tom Stinemetze during the final city commission meeting of 2015 Monday morning.

Mayor Tom Brown made the presentation, noting that Stinemetze started with the city in 1986.

“He was hired as a temporary engineer tech and inspector,” Brown said. “After the temporary job ended, [former city commissioner] Bob Harder told Mr. Bley that they needed to find a way to keep him around. That he would be a valuable asset to the city of McPherson. And he has been a valuable asset all of these years.”

Stinemetze was hired initially as Public Works Secretary after that temporary job ended, and then was named the Zoning Administrator and Sanitarian in 1989. He was named to his current post in 2014, among a few other postings over the years.

“We're going to greatly miss you, Tom,” Brown said. “We appreciate all the service you've done and all the little things you've done.”

A special reception honoring Stinemetze will be held at the McPherson Municipal Center on Thursday afternoon, his last day with the city, from 2-4 p.m.
