Central Christian College’s basketball teams won’t have to wait long to kick off the 2016 portion of their schedule.
The Lady Tigers, in fact, kick off the new year on Day One, as they play New Year’s Day as well as Saturday in the Tabor College Classic in Hillsboro.
Central will be matched against a pair of KCAC schools, taking on Sterling at 2 p.m. on Friday and host Tabor at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Tabor is the KCAC leader with a perfect 7-0 conference record.
Central, 4-8 on the season, has been off since Dec. 12 when it defeated Union College, 67-38. The Lady Tigers spent much of the first semester without MacKenzie Woods and Krystina Stackhouse, who had been playing for the women’s soccer team that finished in the Top 4 at the NCCAA National Tournament. They combined for 17 points in the win over Union.
The Central men play their fourth and final exhibition game on Saturday when they travel to play Drury University in Missouri. Game time is 3 p.m. and the outcome doesn’t count on the Tigers’ record.
The Tigers are officially 9-2 on the season, the only losses coming to Kansas Wesleyan and Bethany College, both games they had the lead but couldn’t put those teams away. Among the Tigers’ highlights during 2015 were wins over KCAC schools McPherson College, Friends University, Bethel College and Oklahoma Wesleyan.
The Tigers play for real on Tuesday when they take on Kansas Wesleyan in Salina. It’s the beginning of a busy week as CCC also plays Jan. 7-8 in the Hillsdale Classic against Hillsdale and Arlington Baptist, respectively.
